Instrument based on the 1741 Guarneri del Gesu “Dushkin” violin.
For this instrument I chose a top of italian spruce of very low density, this particular tree has been in my cellar for 12 years now and has given me many excellent sounding violins. I still have wood for quite a few more violins and violas from the same log.
The back, ribs and scroll are from a rumanian maple log that has just come into play from my wood stock, after waiting patiently for about 10 years for it to be seasoned. It is glowing now with beautiful deep figure.
I will be documenting the varnish process in this page.
First step: make the most use of the UV atlantic sun !
